Microbrewery - since 2014

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Falling in love with craft beer

Working for one of the global top 4 brewers, traveling the world, visiting breweries in different locations and different sizes, I tasted many fantastic craft beers and listened to the stories of brewery owners and brewmasters. I learned that beyond a huge global beer pool of ‘European style’ pilsners and lagers, there is a world of ‘better beer’ out there. More colour, more taste, more aroma, more variety …I fell in love with modern Craft Beers.

OUDERKERK’S GOUD IS BORN

In 2014 I decided to try brewing myself. It became a father and son, family project. While working on the recipe all in the family contributed to the discussion around a potential name for the beer. Ouderkerk a/d Amstel has a rich and fascinating history. The village deserves its own beer to celebrate the history. Linking the beer to the name of the village was what we aimed for…Ouderkerk’s Goud (Dutch for Gold) was born.

OUR BEER

We develop recipes for beers, which are full of colour, taste and flavour with moderate alcohol strength. The beer is crafty and special but not too heavy so easy to drink. A good match with food but also enjoyable on its own. Recipes are developed on a home-testbrew system and subsequently brewed in small batch in Brouwerij Troost Westergas, in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. In the ‘where to buy’ section you can find a photo of the brewhouse where Ouderkerk’s Goud is brewed.

OUDERKERKS’S GOUD WEIZEN

Classic, German style brewed, with 50% malted wheat giving the beer its refreshing, somewhat sour taste. Addition of cara-malts gives this Weizen some extra colour and body. The beer has a mild, pleasant hop aroma due to late addition of aroma hops. The Weizen goes well seafood or a salad with fish or chicken.

ABV: 5%  –  IBU: 15  –  EBC: 10

OUDERKERK’S GOUD SESSION

Session Pale Ale is, as the name suggests, the session version of Ouderkerk’s Goud Pale Ale. Session beer is a style in itself referring to beer that can be drunk for a whole ‘session’. Session meaning lighter and easier to drink. Typically, alcohol content is between 3.5% and 5% with a good balance between malt and hop characteristics and a clean finish. All this is true for our Session Pale Ale. The malt and hop varieties are similar as in Ouderkerk’s Goud, but different quantities and mix, combined with a different mashing profile created a pleasant, well balanced Session Pale Ale.

ABV: 4.7%  –  IBU: 25  –  EBC: 20

OUDERKERK’S GOUD PALE ALE

Ouderkerk’s Goud Pale Ale is an American style Pale Ale, which is a little hoppier than the British style Pale Ale. It is made with three American hop varieties for bitterness, late hopping and dry hopping. The main varieties used are Cascade and Centennial. Despite the use of quite a bit of hop, there is a nice balance with the malts because of some extra cara malts and a good dose of Muncher.

ABV: 5.4%  –  IBU: 30  –  EBC: 24

OUDERKERKS’S GOUD BROWN ALE

This malty beer contains a mix of five malts, including cara-malt, roasted chocolate malt and Vienna. This mix gives the beer a beautiful deep brown colour and a pleasant malty taste with hints of caramel, nuts and coffee. This beer goes well withj roasted meats but it also makes a perfect combination with a cheese platter, rillettes & pâtés

ABV: 6%  – IBU: 35 – COLOUR: deep dark brown
